3MT® is a competition that challenges graduate students to present a compelling verbal presentation of their thesis /dissertation topic and its significance in just three minutes. 3MT® develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of graduate students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a public audience. The Student Research Travel award program is designed to support graduate and undergraduate students in the Bagley College of Engineering that have participated in research and are presenting that research at regional, national, and international conferences. Qualifying students will receive partial support to cover travel related expenses associated with the presentation of their research at conferences within their discipline. Click here to learn more.
The Office of the Graduate School offers Travel Assistance Grants for Graduate Students (TAGGS) annually, for each of three travel periods. For these travel periods, there are corresponding time intervals for submission of applications to request funding (see below). The maximum level of funding awarded is $800 per request. The Graduate Student Association is an elected body of graduate students elected to represent your problems to the administration to the University. The Graduate Student Association (GSA) provides programs and services to enrich the graduate student experience and promote, support, and represent graduate student interests and values. The GSA sponsors two main events annually to enhance student experience and showcase student achievements, the Graduate Student Research Symposium and the Graduate Student Awards Banquet. Graduate Student Research Symposium
The symposium, which is open to the entire Mississippi State University community, provides graduate students an opportunity to present their research to a broad and diverse audience, helping them develop the ability to communicate in a manner that is understood/appreciated by non-specialists and a general audience. The event also provides students with the opportunity to learn about the ongoing research outside of their specific disciplines being conducted by their peers at MSU. The GSRS provides a unique forum for interaction among students and faculty across the university and motivates students to share their experiences with other graduate students. The Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) is funding a tenured and tenure track faculty support program to facilitate research at Mississippi State. This program incorporates a research initiation program, a quick grants program, and a faculty travel program. Click here to learn more.
